• A data center is an atmosphere.  It is a temperature-and humidity-controlled environment.  
• Data centers are not generally eco-friendly.  They use a lot of power and generate a tremendous amount of heat.  
• In order to reject heat data centers use a lot of water for cooling.
• Six of the top 11 data center markets have no drinking water so the municipalities will be forced to stop using water for data centers. 
• Data centers eat up 3% of the world's electricity and generate as much CO2 as the entire airline industry. Many people are projecting this will double to 6% of the world's electricity, but others are saying this will climb to 20% or even 30%.
• One of the world's largest data centers is one million square feet and requires as much power as a city of one million people.
• U.S. data centers use more than 90 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, requiring roughly 34 giant (500-megawatt) plants.
• About 70% of the world’s online traffic passes through data centers in Loudoun County, VA near Washington, D.C. The problem is that Dominion Power, which supplies the vast majority of Loudoun County’s electricity, only generates 1% of its total electricity from renewable sources.  The rest is split evenly between coal, gas and nuclear power.
